These cards are:

  • 10.8 x 7 cms;
  • laminated with rounded edges.
  • Each card has the drawn sign language graphic which is
  • done in black with red arrows and if there is need the second part of the sign is in red.
  • written description on how to do the sign is at the bottom of the card.
  • these cards do not have colour photos included.

These cards can be used to teach the sign - connect the sign to the  written word at the bottom of the card.

The written description is there to help the teacher/parent remember how to do the sign correctly.**

** The accuracy of the sign production is very important for the person teaching someone else to sign.

Remember you are working with children/adults  with speech and/or developmental delay and they rely on you producing the sign correctly so they can recognise it where ever or who ever they are with.

They themselves maynot produce the sign correctly but they will do the best they can with the skills they have. (if you start mimicing their version of the sign then they may not recognise it when someone else asks and signs to them correctly therefore causeing an isolation in their communication). I hope you can understand what I am saying here.

With babies/toddlers learning to sign just for fun the nearer you stay to the correct production of the sign the better their skills will get. Children will always do their own version of a sign they have seen. Every now and then you can show them how to shape properly but also always accept their version.

Depending on how long they use the sign and how old they are will effect the type of handshapes they make as some like flat hand will be easier than say one with only baby finger straight.
