The book ‘Lets play with sign’ has been developed for those using Key Word sign (Makaton) with young children – at home, at preschool or day care – wherever your child is.
This book is designed to encourage signing in familiar situations (meal time, greetings, block time etc).
The scripts help: you become familiar with the language for each topic; learn how to combine signs & spoken language; expand sign and language usage; include communication stratagies in everyday interactions.
Each script also contains a list of equipment suggested for the activity, the strategies than can be used to support the development of communication skills and the line drawings with written descriptions of the signs.
Features:
* The book is in two parts:
* PART 1: Offers information on how to use signing with your child as their communication skills grow. It gives ideas on how to make signing a useful tool for the development of language skills
* PART 2: Presents scripts for 6 common activities: Greetings; Obstacle course; Bath time; Blocks; Mealtime; Play dough
* These scripts are designed to be photocopied and will help you to:
* Become familiar with possible signs for each activity
* Increase the number of signs you can use in conversation with your child
* Practice combining signs and speech together
* Be aware of useful strategies for helping your child’s communication and language skill grow
* There are two scripts for each activity:
* The first (Early Interaction) is for children just learning to communicate
* The second (Development Language) is for helping your child to use more words/signs and longer sentences.
